Williams Lake Students To Benefit From TRU’s Day Of Giving Campaign

Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake Campus, Day of Giving continues.

The goal of this two-day event is to raise $48,000 in 48-hours in support of Lake City students with their education.

Academic Director Kylie Thomas said there are two funds residents can donate to.

“The first is the Williams Lake endowment fund. Our goal is to build it to one million dollars. We started this last year and our goal when we meet it will produce $40,000 in endowed funds per year for student awards for those who are studying on our campus and in our regional centres. The endowment fund ensures the long-term financial sustainability for student awards. Right now it’s through initiatives like the Day of Giving and other one off donations to the campus that fund some of our awards and scholarships like our Gala Night that we had last Fall.”

The other fund residents can donate to is the Health Care Program.

“We actually have a giving fund for health care student equipment.” Thomas said, “This benefits students in the Williams Lake and our region by providing our first-year nursing students with a lab kit for their studies. It includes pieces of equipment like a stethoscope, a blood pressure cuff, and much more, again supporting their learning. We have an intake of nursing students this fall that will all receive lab kits thanks to funds raised through Day of Giving from 2023.”

Through the 2023 Day of Giving initiative Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops and Williams Lake raised a total of $54,095 that came from over 116 generous donors. Residents can donate to the Williams Lake endowment fund or any fund of their choice during Day of Giving.
