String of North Nechako 9-1-1 calls end with suspect caught asleep on couch

A police goose chase in North Nechako ended with one man arrested after he fell asleep on someone else’s couch.

It happened early on Sunday morning (February 18) when police received a call from a house on the 5100 block of North Nechako Road at around 2:00 to report a rock had been thrown through their window and they could hear a man outside.

While responding to the first report, another call came in from a nearby house on Riverview Road, claiming a strange man had entered their home, asked the owner to call 9-1-1, and then left.

The third call was placed from Rosia Road soon after when the homeowners heard someone trying to break into their house’s front door.

Finally, at 5:30, the suspect was found inside a fourth home in the area asleep on a couch and arrested.

In a news release, Corporal Jennifer Cooper said “Investigators are extending their thanks to the people who contacted police with information on the suspect’s whereabouts, several of whom could see him on their video surveillance passing through the area, as it assisted in ultimately tracking him down.”

The man was known to police and was released back into the community later in the day on an undertaking with a future court date.
