A 30-year old man, arrested following a lengthy crime spree from Quesnel to Alexandria, has been sentenced to some additional jail time.
Ronald Jack Peebles was sentenced to time served plus an additional 156 days and also received three years probation and a five year driving prohibition.
Peebles pleaded guilty to five of the 12 charges laid against him, including theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and driving while disqualified.
Several other charges, including resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer were stayed.
Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a stolen truck from a motel on Front Street back at approximately 6:20 a.m. on October 24, 2022.
Police say approximately an hour later, at 7:23 a.m., the stolen vehicle was used in the theft of a boat and boat trailer from the Lakeview Crescent area.
However, the thieves had failed to properly attach the trailer and it fell off the hitch and was recovered in a nearby yard.
Police say the stolen vehicle than crashed and rolled several times along Highway 97.
Two suspects were injured in the rollover, but a third suspect then stole another truck from a bystander who had stopped to help.
The man is then accused of driving to a nearby property in Alexandria before stealing a Quad before crashing it as well down a steep embankment.
Police say he wasn’t done there however, as the suspect then swam across the Fraser River, but was met by RCMP members on the other side.
The suspect was exhausted and was transported to hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.
