The first events in the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games will get underway today. (Thursday).
This is the first time ever that the games are being co-hosted by a city and an Indigenous community, the Lhtako Dene Nation.
More than 12 hundred athletes are expected to compete, including 36 from the Cariboo, 22 from Quesnel, 7 from 100 Mile House, 2 from Lone Butte, 4 from Williams Lake, and 1 from 150 Mile.
They will be competing in archery, artistic gymnastics, cross country skiing, biathlon, ringette, curling, and judo.
Badminton gets underway this morning at 8-30 at Quesnel Junior School and there will be Biathlon out at Hallis Lake.
The other events get underway tomorrow. (Friday)
The Opening Ceremony will take place tonight at 7 o’clock at the West Fraser Centre.
The games run through Sunday.
