Cariboo Fire Centre among six others getting support from the Province

All six Fire Centres, including the Cariboo, will be seeing more equipment for the 2024 wildfire season.

As the Province approaches Spring and Summer months, resources will become available when and where they’re needed, depending on wildfire activity.

The Ministry of Forest said “The Province has invested $16 million in pumps, modular fire camp equipment, safety, medical and hygiene equipment as well as ground equipment.”

They added that additional investments were made in two mass water delivery systems that can aid in fire suppression and flood operations.

Work will also be done with communities to strengthen planning, prevention, preparedness, and response and recovery after the worst wildfire season in the province’s history last year.

BC Wildfire Service has also turned year round, allowing feedback from the Premier’s expert task force on emergencies to accelerate and strengthen work to be better prepared for the season.

Examples of feedback given include a longer and rolling recruiting period so local teams can hire earlier, and investing and upgrading wildfire aviation, equipment, and ground fleet for crews.

More information on the province’s addition support can be found on their website here.
