Northern Health says the recent temporary closure of the emergency department at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake did not result in any impact on G.R. Baker Hospital or increase emergency department visits in Quesnel.
.
Quesnel and 100 Mile were listed as hospitals where people in Williams Lake could go if needed when the ER was closed overnight on Monday (Feb 12) and into Tuesday morning.
“Northern Health and Interior Health facilities are part of a provincial system of care that supports the needs of BC residents where they reside. Any time services are interrupted at a particular facility, adjacent or nearby sites are notified, including across health authority boundaries.”
Northern Health says the GR Baker emergency department is not anticipating any service interruptions at this time.
It adds however “that many emergency departments are experiencing high numbers of visits and that people with non-emergency needs are always encouraged to use alternates such as the Northern Health Primary and Community Care Clinic, making an appointment with their primary care provider, or booking a pharmacist appointment.”
