The Cariboo Regional District is looking for resident’s feedback about their proposed 2024 budget.
In a release from the CRD, a balance of revenue, expenses, and transfers between funds results in a budget of $69.75 million for 2024, supporting the CRD’s services, which is a $794,302 increase from 2023’s budget of $68.96 million.
The proposed budget will support the delivery of solid waste management, recreation, fire protection, along with utility services across the region, with $32.73 million of that being funded by taxation, which is an overall increase of $2.9 million.
They said public consultation is needed for their proposals first before the budget can be adopted.
There are 122 services that the CRD covers in its budget, with each needing to balance out the money coming in covering what’s going out, and any extra cash or plans to dip into savings must also be included in the budget.
Information will not only be on social media, but also will be sent out to residents by mail, providing a more focused overview of services available to residents in an electoral area, as opposed to a general overview.
The hope is that by providing information through different avenues, it’ll increase awareness about the opportunity for residents to comment on the budget.
