The Quesnel Rodeo Club and the BC Rodeo Association are one big happy family again.
Quesnel Rodeo Club President Ray Jasper confirms that their event will once again be sanctioned by the BCRA and that they will get to keep their new format.
“We’re very excited and I think they are as well, the BCRA. It’s definitely a win for rodeo in British Columbia. The format has proven to be a huge success, I know that they had to do some rule changes and things like that to make it fit, and a bunch of folks worked really hard last fall and throughout the winter we’ve been talking and it worked out, so we’re pretty excited.”
Quesnel switched over to a playoff format a few years ago and that’s what caused the split.
It is the only event that uses it.
Jasper says this year’s event will remain in tact.
“We’re going to do the qualifier Thursday night for the barrels. We’ll do the American qualifier then as well. And then the rodeo will be, slack will be Friday at noon and first performance Friday night at 7 and then Saturday and Sunday.”
Jasper says the agreement is good for everyone involved.
“For one thing, what it will do is it will put the entry system and payout system back in the hands of the BCRA, which will alleviate a lot of work from our end that we’ve been doing, and overall I think rodeo in BC needs us all to be a cohesive unit, and this is one big step to making that happen.”
Jasper says a few of the details still need to be ironed out.
He feels that will happen in mid-March.
