A longtime member of the South Cariboo Health Foundation is moving on.
Public Relations and Fundraiser for the Organization Brenda Devine is stepping back after 10-plus years of service.
“In 2008 I was a volunteer Director for the Foundation, I was on the Board, and it got to the point where they thought that they needed someone to look after the day to day, some of the administration, and also for fundraising.” Devine said, “ So in stepped myself and I took over from somebody else who had been doing it for a short while and I’ve been doing this for over ten years.”
During that decade, Devine noted that the highlight of their fundraising efforts for the Hospital happened last year.
“We raised over $200,000! It was wonderful how generous the community was and has always been. One one of the projects that year was for the renovation of the wound care room. It was simply amazing.”
The 2023 edition of the Starry Nights Fundraiser ended yesterday, her last fundraising effort, and Devine said they raised just over $103,000 which over $80,000 will go towards the purchase of a Hospital Patient Monitoring all in one computer.
Devine said at this point she really doesn’t know who she’ll be handing the mantle over to.
“I’ll kind of carry on doing a few things to keep things moving along and help out wherever I can. Whomever it is that comes in I hope that another set of eyes can carry on and bring something new and fresh, somebody else’s ideas are sometimes are the best so I’m looking forward to that for the Hospital’s sake and for the Board for them to choose somebody else.”
Devine added that she would really like to thank the South Cariboo Health Foundation, the Board itself, for the trust that they had in her to help them raise money and look after the day to day activities.
“They are fine people. They are really passionate about what they feel, they want the Hospital to shine, to do the best for the community. They’ve been very helpful, they participate and give me support. I am truly going to miss a lot of the management at the Hospital, we really have a good relationship, so there’s going be some part of this that’s going to be a little bit harder to move from but I think it’s time and I wish them all the best.”
