Local Cariboo Chapter Of The Canadian Council Of The Blind Celebrating 33-years

For over three decades the 100 Mile House and District Blind and Visually Impaired White Cane Club has been serving the needs of the Cariboo.

This year, this local Chapter of the Canadian Council of the Blind, is celebrating their 33rd anniversary.

During that time, Director of Public Relations, Lori Fry, said they have supported many people and are most proud to look after the youth.

“Most recently we have recruited a family from Williams Lake on our membership roster that includes three students, young teens. One which is visually impaired and two are supporting members to that individual. We’re really looking forward to support the youth the best we can.”

Over the years Fry noted that they’ve been able to assist financially four students to go to a Space Camp for the Blind down in Huntsville Alabama.

This year Fry said they’re trying to launch a transportation program because it’s very problematic to anybody that doesn’t have a vehicle.

“We try to support individuals that do need to go to Kamloops or Vancouver for eye-related Ophthalmology and or surgeries. We try to offset their travelling expenses as well. But anybody in the community, if we hear of anybody needing anything we we are able to assist anybody that we can, funds permitting of course.”

Fry added whether it’s providing magnifiers, information, or pointing individuals to get resources from another organization, this Chapter is here to help anybody in any way.
