Local Support Comes Through Once Again For KidSport Williams Lake Chapter

“So all kids can play”.

That’s the goal of KidSport Williams Lake Chapter run by a group of volunteers fundraising to help families with financial barriers enroll their children in local sports programs.

Chairperson Rick Miller said last year the Chapter provided $20-thousand to assist with registration fees in sports like hockey, gymnastics, soccer and skating.

With local application numbers increasing well above the provincial average in 2023, Miller says over the past couple of years they’ve increased their funding from 200 to $300 per family per year.

When you start to look at the cost of living $300 is probably at the bottom end now of what we should be giving. But we need to be able to spread it around to many different sports and many different people so we’re not able to go above that at this point.”

Miller said with community support KidSport Williams Lake Chapter can continue to support the demand.

We’ve also been lucky over the past number of years to get Provincial grants and then there are large sponsors like Taseko Gibraltar Mines that recently gave us a donation. Its all about local support for local kids is what we’ve always based our income on for our Chapter.”

KidSport Williams Lake Chapter is a community based, not for profit funding organization promoting healthy lifestyles for local children that was started by Deb and Pat Radolla in the early 2000’s.
