Semi fire shuts down Highway 97 near Quesnel

The Kersley Volunteer Fire Department responded to a semi fire over the weekend.
Fire Chief Eric Smith says they were called to the intersection of Highway 97 and Kersley Road at 12-24 yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.
“When I arrived on scene in our squad truck the cab was fully involved with the fire slowly encroaching on the A-box with the lumber on it.  Engine 13 was a few minutes behind me.  When they arrived on scene they pulled across way, which then they did an offensive attack to help to contain the fire to the cab of the semi.”
Smith says the Highway was shut down for more than a hour.
He says their biggest concern was that the semi had just filled up with around a thousand litres of diesel.
Smith says the damage was significant.
“The truck is a complete loss.  The load, we managed to save that.  There was just some slight charring and some burning of the plastic of the lumber wrap on the A-box.  Besides that the load was save.”
   No one was hurt.
Smith says he believes that the cause of the fire was engine related, although he can’t be sure because of the extent of the damage.
He says they responded with four apparatus and 11 fire fighters.
