Gibraltar Mine Wraps Up 2023 With Impressive Fourth Quarter

A strong finish.

That’s what Taseko Mines Limited announced for the fourth quarter at Gibraltar Mines.

“We produced about 34 million pounds of copper and 369 thousand pounds of molybdenum.” Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Sean Magee said, “For the full year, 2023, our production was 123 million pounds of copper a significant increase over the previous year, about a twenty-six percent increase and even well above the guidance that Taseko provided to the marketplace which was 115 million pounds of copper.”

In that same quarter, Gibraltar had strong copper grades as well.

“The latter half of last year mining operations at Gibraltar were focused on the deeper benches of the Gibraltar pit where copper grades are higher.” Magee said, “We expect to continue to be mining in that part of the pit in the first half of 2024. We would expect similar strong production performance in the first half of the year and certainly over the course of 2024.”

Magee said as they look forward there’s another 20-plus years of known production at Gibraltar.

“We would expect life of mine average, copper production which is about 130 million pounds, we would expect to be achieving that on average over the next 20 years.”
