Over $380,000 has been provided to 15 volunteer fire departments in the Cariboo region.
14 of the departments are under the Cariboo Regional District (CRD), and are getting $357,937.22 for emergency-response improvement project.
Manager of Communications, Gerald Pinchbeck says the money will be split among the departments.
“Each fire department was able to apply for up to $30,000 for training, equipment, or other small tools and equipment.” says Pinchbeck.
“So each of our 14 fire departments will receive a portion of the funding for a variety of these things.”
Pinchbeck also provided a list of how the funding will be split:
- 108 Mile VFD – $30,000
- 150 Mile VFD – $28,672
- Barlow Creek VFD – $28,217.28
- Bouchie Lake VFD – $28,500.48
- Deka Lake VFD – $30,000
- Forest Grove VFD – $30,000
- Interlakes VFD – $29,436.02
- Lac La Hache VFD – $24,122.80
- Miocene VFD – $30,000
- Wildwood VFD – $30,000
- Kersley VFD – $24,752
- Lone Butte VFD – $22,164.80
- Ten Mile VFD – $24,164
- West Fraser VFD – $22,659.84
He says the funding will be very beneficial even to Cariboo residents, as the money goes towards training and equipment that would have to be conducted with taxation dollars.
The CRD had applied for this funding last year with a similar amount, however Pinchbeck says they were denied.
Quesnel is the last department getting funding of $28,000 for essential fire-officer training.
More information on the funding and recipients can be found on the Province’s website here.
