As part of a Wildfire Risk Reduction project, BC Wildfire Service, the Cariboo Forest District, and Borland Creek Logging, will be conducting pile burning on Fox Mountain.
Burning is expected to begin today (January 10) and continue periodically until March 31st.
Completion of this 52.4 hectare project will help reduce the wildfire hazard near Williams Lake and restore grown-in Interior Douglas-fir stands to a natural and more desirable state.
BC Wildfire Service said the project includes the removal of surface and ladder fuels, as well pruning and thinning the existing stand to create crown separation and reduce the risk of high intensity crown fire.
Smoke and flames may be visible to the surrounding community and to commuters on Ross Road, Fox Mountain Road and Highway 97.
BC Wildfire Service said ignitions and burning will only proceed if weather and site conditions are suitable and allow smoke to dissipate.
These Burns will be conducted by local contract crews.
