Sudden power outage in Williams Lake affects thousands

Residents in Williams Lake and the surrounding areas were suddenly without power earlier today.

On BC Hydro’s outage map, it showed that the outage affected around 8,388 customers, just after 1:00pm.

Manager of Community Relations for Northern BC Mike Kellette explains the cause for the outage.

“Right now we believe it was due to an animal contacting the line, but crews were able to jump on it pretty quick and get power restored for folks.”

Kellette added that the power outage fortunately only lasted for about seven or eight minutes.

The outage map along with the full list of current, restored, and planned outages can be found on BC Hydro’s website here.
