Williams Lake RCMP reminding everyone to protect themselves from identity theft

Williams Lake RCMP noted an increase in reports of suspicious activity of some delivery services appearing to be limited to private couriers.

In a release, police say that delivery companies are asking to take photographs of identification before delivering orders.

RCMP said they recognize that identification may need to be presented to prove name and address, however photographs should not be taken.

While there has been no reports of identity theft directly related to this, the RCMP want’s residents to be aware to mitigate the chance of becoming a victim.

Staff Sargent Brad McKinnon said that “If you find yourself in a similar situation, where a parcel delivery service provider asks to take a picture of your personal identification, to call police for assistance.”
