The unemployment rate in the Cariboo was down in November, marking the 4th straight monthly decline.
Vincent Ferrao, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats Canada, says it dropped slightly last month.
“The unemployment rate for the Cariboo region came in at 5.5 percent for November. A year ago, same month, was 4.9. And compared to last month, October, it was 5.7.”
The unemployment rate hasn’t been this low since last November, and it was 8 percent back in July.
Ferrao says the number of people working in the region was also up slightly from last month.
“87,100 people worked in November. It was a bit more than a year ago when we had 86,400. It’s about the same as last month. We had 87,800 last month.”
Ferrao says there wasn’t a lot of movement in the different sectors, but there was some.
“Construction year over year was up. So was manufacturing. However, wholesale and retail is down. Another one that’s up is education and then we have smaller declines in healthcare and social assistance, public administration and natural resources.”
The national unemployment rate came in at 5.8 percent in November, up from 5.7.
BC’s jobless rate was sitting at 5.3 percent.
Manitoba is the lowest at 4.9 and Manitoba and Saskatchewan were also lower.
