You can add a new fire truck to the list of things that are getting a lot more expensive.
Quesnel City Council unanimously approved dipping into reserves to come up with another 222 thousand dollars for a new Ft. Garry fire truck.
Fire Chief Ron Richert successfully made a pitch for the extra money at last week’s Council meeting.
“Ft. Garry Fire Trucks meets and exceeds all RFP requirements and is consistent with our current fleet layout and design, while still maintaining best value. They do have the shortest delivery date which is 18 to 20 months, they are a Canadian based company out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. They have a designated Emergency Vehicle Technician who does all the warranty work for Ft. Garry, and he’s located in Houston, B.C. They also have emergency vehicle technicians that specialize in electrical components and they’re based out of Vancouver.”
Richert noted that they also have technicians in Vancouver.
There were four bids in total.
“We received four bids from fire truck manufacturers, Ft Garry, Rosenbauer, HUB and Commercial. The RFP bids were reviewed by fire department staff and an evaluation criteria process was used to determine which fire truck manufacturer would be selected All four bids exceeded the original cost of 1.2 million.”
The final price tag will be just over 1.44 million dollars.
For perspective, the 1998 truck that the new truck is replacing cost $374,039.
Council will pay for new truck with $400,000 out of the Fire Equipment Reserve, with the rest coming out of the Growing Communities Fund Reserve.
