Since 2013 the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society has been offering a program to help others enjoy one of Canada’s favourite pastimes.
Skates for All is underway once again in Williams Lake which is part of their Waste Wise program through the CRD and City of Williams Lake.
Program Coordinator Daniella Gastaldello said residents can donate all winter long skates they’re no longer using.
“We have three different collection bins. There’s one in Delainey’s, another at Total Ice and one in the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex. So we collect all these unwanted skates and we send them over to the kind folks over at Caribou Ski Source for Sports, they sharpen and disinfect for us so that we can re-distribute them.”
Gastaldello said they have all the skates they collected at the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society Office so people can drop in and pick up what they need.
“Ideally if people could call ahead just to double check to see if we have the sizes they’re looking for I could save them a trip if don’t happen to at the time have what they need. Wednesday’s are going to be the drop in days at the office and again, people can call me at the office on Monday’s and Wednesday’s,” Gastaldello said.
Last year’s Skates for All distributed 130 pairs.
