Plans Underway To Reactivate Search And Rescue In Anahim Lake

Several Anahim Lake residents turned out to a meeting to re-activate Search and Rescue in their community.

Dave Chamberlain, who is leading this cause, says they did have a SARS team about 20 years ago before it disbanded.

About 20 people attended Wednesday night’s (November 15) meeting along with a list of about 30 who could not attend.

We asked Chamberlain what the next steps are now in getting Search and Rescue back up and running in Anahim Lake.

“Figuring out what’s involved with getting organized, whether we have to start it as a committee, whether we can tie it into the Community Association which is very well established and has been for a long time. The necessary training to get things rolling and then funding.”

Chamberlain noted they did retain all of the equipment from the past 20 years but funding will definitely be needed to upgrade and update it.

Traditionally there was a Search and Rescue here. For whatever reasons it disbanded more or less twenty years probably. The community is to a point now that there are enough volunteers and enough interest in the area and the community again,” Chamberlain said.
