October was a busy month for the members of the Williams Lake Fire Department.
Deputy Chief Cory Boyd said they responded to 45 calls.
“About 30 of the calls came in as Group Pages, where the paid on-call firefighters responded. 11 of those were fires, 8 of them MVI’s and the rest were miscellaneous like fire alarms, power lines and CO leaks.”
We asked Boyd how that compared to October of 2022.
“We actually responded to a couple of more calls, 47 total, the difference being at the end of October ’22 we had responded to 371 calls year to date, and at the end of October 2023 we responded to we responded to 379 so we’ve gotten a few mores calls this.”
Boyd says as temperatures drop anything you use in the winter in terms of wood heat or a furnace you definitely want to make sure that they’re serviced as recommended and anything that has a chimney gets inspected and cleaned.
