The Ministry of Forests will be burning approximately 100 piles of woody debris and log decks at multiple site within the vicinity of the Flat Lake wildfire in the South Cariboo.
Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre, Talia McKay said these activities are being taken to help reduce fuel hazards created from the construction of control lines during fire suppression activities.
“Smoke may be visible from Highway 97, Highway 24 and areas around 100 Mile House, Lac La Hache, 70 Mile House and Green Lake..
50 piles of woody debris and log decks will also be burned in the vicinity of the Canim Lake wildfire, Howard Lake wildfire, North Deka Lake wildfire, Dombey East wildfire, Duckling Lake wildfire, Drewry Southeast wildfire, Succour lake wildfire and Drewry South wildfire.
“Smoke from these burns may be visible from the Canim Hendrix Road, Horse Lake Road, Mahood Lake Road, Highway 24 and areas around Canim Lake, Forest Grove and Interlakes, McKay said.
Burning on these projects is expected to begin Monday November 20 and continue periodically until February 29, 2023.
McKay said it will occur only on days when site and weather conditions are favourable and will allow smoke to dissipate.
These controlled burns will be conducted by Ministry staff or local contract crews.
