Winter weather, including more than twelve centimeters of fresh snow since Boxing Day, has been wreaking havoc on roadways in the South Cariboo.
Proper tires are a big factor in helping motorists avoid ditches through the season says Kitty Morgan, a service consultant with Central GM in 100 Mile House:
“It certainly helps to create traction, improve handling, and direct moisture out of the tire.”
Tire tread has to be intact for the tires to be effective says Dave with Big O Tires:
“Tires must have 3.5 millimeters of tread remaining to be considered valid winter tires.”
Service departments will have an appropriate tool or Motorists can check their tire tread at home with a penny by placing the penny in the groove with the Queen’s crown facing down… if the top of the crown is visible, the tires should be replaced.
