BC Emergency Alerts to be conducted next week

BC is looking to run their test of BC Emergency Alerts to cellphones, TV’s, and radio’s.

The Canada-wide test of the National Public Alerting System will go off at 1:55pm (Pacific Time) on Wednesday, November 15th, to improve public safety if an emergency occurs.

In a release from the province, they said radio and television broadcasts will be interrupted by the test, and will go to all compatible cellphones, which will read “This is a TEST of the BC Emergency Alert system. This is ONLY a TEST.”

In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe, and could save your life.

During the 2023 wildfire season, tens of thousands of people were asked to evacuate on short notice, with the Province issuing 24 emergency alerts about evacuation orders, providing people with timely, life-saving information when they needed it.

The alerts are used for tsunamis, floods, wildfires, extreme heat emergencies, Amber Alerts, and civil emergencies.
