Crown Counsel has decided not to proceed with an arson charge against a suspect in a suspicious fire in Quesnel.
RCMP arrested a female in connection with a fire that destroyed a house on Willis Street back in November of 2021.
Staff Sergeant Richard Weseen noted at the time that “a witness observed a female light a fire on the outside of the building which quickly spread to the residence.”
Weseen says it was fortunate that no one was hurt as it was vacant at the time.
“The residence was known to police, but the previous tenant had passed away and the owner was in the process of renovating the house.”
Police forwarded a charge of arson to the crown, but a decision has now been made two years later not to proceed with the case.
