CRD Residents Voted Overwhelmingly On The Purchase Of New Fire Trucks

Ten year loans will be taken out to buy new fire trucks in Miocene and Interlakes following a CRD referendum vote this past Saturday.

As a result, the Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department will see three new water tender trucks arriving over the next five years beginning in 2024.

In a release, the CRD stated they will borrow up to $1.9 million through three separate ten-year long loans to make this purchase.

The Miocene Volunteer Fire department will receive a new pumper truck next year replacing the current 2003 model which is aging out this year.

Property taxes will increase by up to eighteen percent to $22.15 per $100,000 of property value. This will finance a loan of up to $800,000 and be paid off in 2033.

Maureen LeBourdais stated in a release “This new purchase will allow the Miocene Volunteer Fire Department to maintain its community fire protection capabilities.”

Taxes will also increase as new trucks are purchased in Interlakes by $16.52 per $100,000 in 2024, $34.57 in 2026 and $54.27 per $100,000 in 2028.

In Miocene the vote was 97 to 26 in favor, and in the Interlakes it was 195 to 34.
