First day of snowfall coming for the Cariboo under a special weather statement

Residents in the Cariboo region can expect a change in precipitation, which will look to bring the first day of snow.

Both snowfall and freezing rain will look to hit the region tomorrow, November 1st, which could bring in some risks.

Meteorologist, Alyssa Charbonneau says the upcoming precipitation has put the region under a special weather statement.

“We’re expecting around 5-10 centimeters of snow through the day, but we’re also seeing a potential for a risk of freezing rain there.” says Charbonneau.

“That could lead to some more slippery conditions as well, so tomorrow could see some wintery mix of precipitation throughout the region.”

Charbonneau added that in the south, closer to 100 Mile House, there’s expected to be a greater chance for freezing rain due to warm air moving in.

She says that their first concern is for those traveling on the roads, and asks drivers to take extra precaution, drive slow, making sure there’s an emergency kit in the vehicle, and check the weather beforehand.

While the snow and freezing rain is expected to taper off by late Thursday afternoon to evening, but more snow is expected this week.

Charbonneau says there’s a chance of flurries for Friday, but should warm up into next week, bringing a chance of rain.

More information on current and upcoming weather can be found on Environment Canada’s website here.
