A Team Effort Wins A Premier’s Award For Excellence In Education

Thirty-four education professionals in the province received the Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Education and one was from the Cariboo.

Cariboo Chilcotin School District 27 Superintendent Chris van der Mark was given the District Leadership Award.

Van der Mark said he’s proud and appreciative to receive the award but at the same time recognizes that it was a team effort.

In my case for sure it’s been a heck of a team effort. From the get go the work we’ve invested in over the past several years has only been possibly because we’ve had a really hard working team around me. We have a real committed group of administrators and staff that are working hard on some of the changes and transformations that we’ve been trying to do. Above all we have a Board that’s been supportive and really let us do our jobs and do some of the heavy lifting.”

Van der Mark said it’s nice to get nominated and nice to see folks recognize that they’ve (the District) have been doing some work that the people are taking notice of.

The Premier’s Awards for Excellence honor public, independent and First Nations school teachers, support staff, principals, vice-principals, as well as school and district leaders who go above and beyond to make life better for k to 12 students throughout BC.

Van der Mark received the honor yesterday (October 26) at a ceremony at Government House in Victoria.
