Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Kamloops.
Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, Carmel Castellan says this afternoon into tonight snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimeters is possible as a slow moving arctic front will bring lowering freezing levels and the first snow of the season to the Southern Interior highway passes.
He added over other highway passes periods of snow with the same accumulation is also expected.
With that in mind, we asked Castellan if the Cariboo could expect to see any significant snowfall amounts today (October 23)
“I don’t think we have quite enough moisture for this event to give us more than the chance of flurries today for places like Quesnel. We could see a few flakes but will they amount to enough to cover the ground, it doesn’t look like it.”
Castellan added this is the time of year when motorists planning to travel along higher elevation highways should check both the Drive BC and Environment Canada websites for the latest conditions and alerts.
