Barring a green Christmas, it looks like the City of Quesnel will go over budget when it comes to snow removal again this year.
City Councillor Mitch Vik, the Chair of the Financial Sustainability and Audit Committee, provided an updated at this week’s meeting.
“Two weeks ago we were at 90 percent. It hasn’t snowed in two weeks so we’re still at 90 percent, but one significant snowfall will put us well over, so although hope is always a terrible strategy, we’re hoping that it doesn’t snow until January.’
The snow removal budget is set at 1.27 million dollars.
The city spent approximately 1.4 million dollars last year and has been over budget in 11 of the past 14 years.
The city does have a snow reserve.
At last report it was sitting at 380 thousand dollars.
