This year’s student enrollment numbers for the Cariboo have been released.
Jennifer Woollends, the Secretary-Treasurer with the Quesnel School District, says enrollment ended up right around where they predicted it would.
“Our enrollment numbers are pretty much the same as what we budgeted for in the preliminary funding that we received from the government. Our preliminary enrollment was 2,981 students.”
That is up about 7 students from 2022.
Woollends says they don’t anticipate significant changes next year either.
As for Williams Lake and 100 Mile House, Cariboo-Chilcotin Superintendent Chris van der Mark says their numbers were down a little this year, which may actually end up being a blessing.
“Our student numbers have landed at 4,640 which is pretty close to projected for our K to 12 enrollment and it is a bit lower than last September. So I would say it’s holding pretty stable and it’s also good in that we had a lot of increase over the past few years and that meant we have to find a lot more staffing, so the ability to not have as big of an increase or to stay stable this year was probably advantageous for us.”
Van der Mark says this year’s number was down by about 60 from last year.
School Districts get their funding from the province based on how many full-time equivalent students they have.
