Williams Lake set for another year of Halloween fireworks

The 44th annual Halloween fireworks are back at the Stampede Grounds for another year.

The City is inviting residents to the annual spectacle, that will be kicked off with a bonfire at 7:15, with the fireworks at 7:45.

In a release, Adult Recreation Coordinator, Maria McKee said “The City’s annual free Halloween fireworks are a beloved community tradition and we are so excited to be able to carry that on during this year’s Halloween night.”

Back in May, City Council discussed on whether or not fireworks should continue for the event, but instead use a replacement such as a light show.

Talks were brought up after a letter was submitted stating that they had a negative effect on animals.

In the end, it was decided that the fireworks would continue this year, due to time constraints.

Along with the the festivities, a pie eating contest will be back, starting at 7:15pm, with free registration on the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex’s website here.

Gates to the stampede grounds at both Mackenzie Avenue and 7th Avenue South will open at 7 pm on Tuesday, October 31st.
