Date for sentencing set for the accused in the Williams Lake Stampede shooting

  The accused in last year’s Williams Lake Stampede shooting will be sentenced next week in provincial court.
   A Pre-sentence report was held for 34-year old Jordell Sellars earlier today (Wednesday), and he is due back in court next Wednesday on the 25th.
   Sellars pleaded guilty back in September to two counts of aggravated assault, and one of possession of a firearm without a license.
   He was also facing charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life but he did not plead guilty to those counts.
   Williams Lake RCMP were called to the Stampede Grounds just after 3 o’clock back on July 3rd of 2022 after receiving multiple reports of gunshots.
   Police say two individuals were injured, including one person who was shot in the heel while standing in line to get some food in behind the grandstand.
   RCMP said at the time that the other shooting was believed to be targeted.

BCGEU strike headed to mediation

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
