Giving a puppy or a kitten as a Christmas gift may sound like a good idea but actually it’s the worse time to do it.
Elizabeth Dighton Manager of the Williams Lake and District SPCA offers this alternative.
“ What I always suggest to people, because I know a parent wants to give a gift of a loving pet at Christmas time, but give the kids all the supplies needed and then once the holidays are over and everything has settled down then go and find the perfect pet.”
Dighton also says that kids are already excited about santa coming and their energy level is so high, Â that bringing a new pet into the mix is terrifying for them. They don’t know what’s going on, all the cat or dog know is there’s all this excitement and they’re overwhelmed by it.
