Record Setting X-Mas for Barkerville

It was a record-setting Victorian Christmas out at Barkerville this year!
More than 1200 people came through the gate at Barkerville from December 12th through the 14th.
James Douglas, the Manager of Visitor Experiences in the historic town, says it smashed an 18-year old attendance record that dates back to 1997.
He says there a number of factors that helped them out:
Lower gas prices right now are one of the things (helping us). The weather has been spectacular all-around – actually so spectacular that in other parts of the province they don’t even have snow right now.

Douglas says they also did some aggressive marketing to remind people about sleigh rides and Father Christmas in Barkerville.
Admission was by donation to either the Barkerville Heritage Trust or the Wells Legion for a food hamper program.
Douglas says people donated almost 12 hundred pounds of non-perishable food items.
