Cariboo Gets Boost On Doctor Recruitment

Quesnel, Williams Lake and 100 Mile House will continue to get money from the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District for the recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals.

The Hospital Board has voted to continue funding 30 thousand dollars a year to all three communities.

Board Chair John Massier says Quesnel, faced with a doctor shortage in the summer, has turned into a real success story.

He says a new emergency room doctor just started work this week and he believes that three new physicians will be starting up in February.

Massier credits Healthcare Coordinator Susan Paulson for her work in Quesnel.

He says they still have some more recruiting to do however and he says it doesn’t end there as then it’s a matter of retaining them in the community.
