Answering The Call At Home And Away

The Williams Lake Fire Department got an early call out yesterday (July 30) morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Brendan Foote said the call came in just before 4 to a vehicle fire in the parking lot on 3rd avenue next to the theatre.

“We had 2 apparatus on scene, 19 firefighters and were able to extinguish the fire quite quickly before it could spread anywhere and the cause of the fire at this time is still under investigation.”

Foote added that the Williams Lake Fire Department was called Saturday afternoon (July 29) to assist with a large fire in Merritt at the old Tolko site.

“We able to provide an engine and a crew of 4. They assisted with 4 other fire departments and they returned from that fire late last night (July 30).”

And at 10 this morning (July 31) the Williams Lake Fire Department sent a 5 person crew to assist with structural protection from a wildfire down in the City of Osoyoos.

“We (WLFD) have a structural protection unit and we’ve been deployed multiple times over the past 12 years to assist with BC Wildfire with structural protection,” Foote said.
