Canada’s Top Athlete: Price wins 2015 Lou Marsh Award

Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett has issued a statement on Carey Price being announced on Tuesday as the winner of the Lou Marsh Award as Canada’s top athlete for 2015.

“Carey joins a long list of distinguished Canadians that includes another son of the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Rick Hansen, who won this award in 1983,” Barnett said.

“Like Rick’s, Carey’s story is one of determination and perseverance. Growing up in Anahim Lake, Carey’s parents Lynda and Jerry made sure their young son was able to play minor hockey in Williams Lake, five hours away by car. Even through all his success with the Montreal Canadiens and gold medal-winning Canadian Olympic hockey team, Carey remains a humble, generous ambassador for the entire Cariboo-Chilcotin region.”

“To our young people, he is a role model who proves anything is possible.”

Price is the first hockey goaltender to ever win the Award which is selected annually by a panel of sports journalists from across Canada.

Last year’s Lou Marsh Award went to bobsledder Kaillie Humphries.
