City of Williams Lake makes hire for new role

The City of Williams Lake announced that Natalie Swift will be the new Indigenous Relations and Climate Action/Active Transportation Coordinator (IRCAATC).

This was made to set priorities and future plans that will be presented council, which could determine if the City needs a full time Indigenous Relations or Climate Action and Active Transportation role.

“Some of the first things this position will do, will be to bring community special interest groups to the table, create some committees,” says Gary Muraca, Chief Administrative Officer.

“As they’re the ones that are experts at what they’d like to see, come up with creative ideas, areas of grant opportunities, and then bring them forward to staff and to be included in future budget cycles.”

Muraca added that he believes Swift will be good at bringing groups together and help identify the gaps in the community apart of the three portfolios.

He says that the City wants to make sure that they engage with the public that has some great ideas, and things they don’t think of as staff.

Swift, who was originally working as the City’s Recovery Coordinator, will begin her new position on August 8th.
