Williams Lake Stampede Queen recognized during City Council

Karena Sokolan, Stampede Queen, was appreciated at Williams Lake council as her role comes to an end.

Sokolan had held the position for 2 years, while also being an ambassador for the community, and was given a certificate of appreciation by Mayor Surinderpal Rathor.

“Probably some of my most favourite moments were when I was on my horse doing my wave laps, the crowds, the kids.” says Sokolan.

“Kids were always my favourite part, teaching them about the rodeo, teaching them to rope, educating them on Stampede Queen and Stampede knowledge, as well as Williams Lake history was always my favourite part, because I’m such a nut for that stuff.”

When she knew that this year would be her last as the Stampede Queen, she made efforts to show that the Stampede is one of the best rodeos in the world, and pushed advocacy towards agriculture and ranching.

For now, Sokolan’s plans are to travel, and potentially go back to school for forestry and natural resources.

She added that she also has a couple years to decide if she wants to run for Miss Rodeo Canada.
