Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex gets over $200,000 funding boost

A $258,000 funding announcement was made earlier today at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

The funding was announced by Harjit Sajjan, Minister of International Development, to support clean infrastructure improvements.

“This project will cut the facilities greenhouse gas emissions by more than half, and improve indoor air quality, resulting in a cleaner building that is safer and provides a sustainable future for generations to come.” says Sajjan.

Sajjan added that the improvements will allow the facility to recover waste heat with it’s HVAC equipment, and reduce humidity and moisture in the building.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor noted that the City will be saving $35,000 in operating costs, and will be one of the most energy efficient facilities in Canada.

Sajjan spoke on other issues affecting Williams Lake, including housing and the water treatment plan that has been pushed back multiple times.

He says it’s easier to tackle the housing issue when there is a plan in place, and says he’ll be looking into the water treatment plant personally to see where it’s at, and how they can get funding for the project.

The funding for the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex is a part of a joint investment of over $5.5 million, supporting seven infrastructure projects in the Central Interior and Northern Regions of BC.
