Consultants Recommend Three School Closures In Quesnel

The Cornerstone Planning Group is recommending to Quesnel’s Board of Education that Kersley, Ecole Baker, and Parkland elementary schools be closed in its school facilities strategy final report.

This would save the district approximately 835 thousand dollars a year and would also result in the lowest overall increase in student travel times.

The idea is that Kersley students would go to Lakeview, Parkland students to Barlow Creek, the English students in Baker could go to Voyageur or Riverview if it’s closer and the French immersion students would be moved to Red Bluff elementary school.

Board Chair Tony Goulet cautions however that that doesn’t mean that is what the Board is going to do.

He says they have many more meetings to come in December and January before they decide anything.

Goulet says a final decision likely won’t be made until the Board’s meeting in March.
