Former Williams Lake resident to swim the Georgia Strait

Scott Rees will be swimming to raise awareness and money for charity.

He’ll be swim through the Georgia Strait for the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, as they provided him with a guide dog two years ago.

For Rees, he isn’t underestimating the challenge ahead.

“It’s certainly a big undertaking for me. It’s not quite as far as the English Channel, but it’s 30 kilometres from near Seshelt to Nanaimo, and that’s the planned route.”

“It’ll take me probably 10 to 12 hours depending on weather, so it’s a big day.”

Due to Rees being visually impaired, he’ll be swimming with the help of someone on a boat giving directions.

Rees looks to begin his swim on July 22nd, with his goal of raising $75,000, which he says is already around $70,000.

To donate, and to learn more about Rees, you can find the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind website here.
