Quesnel And Williams Lake Have The Warmest May On Record

Known as one of the wettest months of the year May was anything but, especially for two Cariboo communities.

Bobby Sekhon, Meteorologist with Environment Canada said the numbers are quite staggering for May.

“Quesnel and Williams Lake both have the hottest May on record. For Quesnel we had a mean temperature for the month at 14.6 degrees compared to the normal of 11.1. That’s three and a half degrees above normal, however, for Williams Lake, that one was quite a bit stronger. We had 14.4 for the month, and the normal for May is just 9.6, almost 5 degrees above normal.”

When it came to the amount of rainfall last month in the Cariboo, Sekhon said it was dry.

“Quesnel received 60% of normal for precipitation and Williams Lake didn’t not too bad at normal at 39 millimetres.”

Looking ahead Sekhon said their Summer forecast model is showing above normal temperatures for the Cariboo.
