Central Cariboo Search and Rescue conducted their hover exit training

The Central Cariboo Search and Rescue (CCSAR) team held their yearly hover exit training.

A helicopter was provided for the vital training session, which can be highly dangerous if done incorrectly.

There were time where a helicopter wasn’t able to land, which Debra Bortolussi, public relations coordinator, says is all the more reason for it’s importance.

“When it comes to the hover entrance and exit, the helicopter is not on a solid surface.” says Bortolussi.

“The pilot has to control its balance, so knowing what to do, how to do it, ensuring that you’re communicating safely with the pilot, all these things are vital to everyone’s safety.”

Bortolussi added that each member is required to participate in the training each year to renew the certification.

She notes that Central Cariboo Search and Rescue are currently recruiting for all positions.
