Crews Fought Fire In Wooded Area Behind Edwards Drive In Williams Lake

The Williams Lake Fire Department was on scene of a fire in a wooded area behind Edwards Drive over the weekend.

Fire Prevention and Training Officer Cory Boyd said 20 fire fighters and 4 apparatus responded just before six Sunday (May 28) afternoon.

“Access became a bit of an issue, there was no trail to it. We ended up having to run hose from a property on Edwards Drive, about 500 feet in. Crews worked on the fire for probably 2 or 3 hours before we were able to put out all of the hot spots and get it extinguished.”

Boyd said the brush was pretty thick and that it took a bit of work using hose lines, shovels and multiple chainsaws for members to gain access to the fire that was approximately 100 feet by 50 feet.

“The fire was deep within the forested area and there was no risk to any properties or any individuals. We didn’t find any evidence of what may have caused it so at this time the cause of the fire is undetermined,” Boyd said.
