Williams Lake Summer Street Fest gets last minute funding from Council

After questions were raised on if Williams Lake would get a street fest this year, a special council meeting gave an answer.

The Potato House Project Society will be taking over as the street fest organizers, after requesting funds from the City during Tuesday’s (May 23rd) special council meeting.

While Potato House Project Society requested $9,000, Mayor Surinderpal Rathor and Council only provided $5,000.

“Doing everything for them is not a good idea.” says Rathor.

“The Council’s main plan is to help them get going, they got to do something by themselves, for themselves.”

The street fest is also on the same day as the Canada Day celebrations, which council wondered if having two events on the same day would be conflicting.

Rathor said the street fest could either work together with the Canada Day celebrations, or have two separate events the community could choose to attend.

However, the street fest will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with the Canada Day festivities scheduled from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

More information on the street fest can be found on the Potato House Project Society facebook page here.
