Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department Gets Their Stolen Flag Replaced By Fellow First Responders

The Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Team went beyond the call of duty to assist a fellow First Responders group.

Deborah Bortolussi, Member and Public Relations Coordinator, said they saw on a Facebook post that the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department had their Canadian flag stolen.

“Not only is that a representation of who we are as a country, but stealing from a volunteer Fire Department, volunteers in general, is just so heart breaking. After what we went through with our truck being stolen and everything that went with that, we (CSARS) knew we had to show our own community support. Without a second thought, Chief Rick White went out and bought a new flag and brought it up to them.”

Bortolussi added it was a way to show Central Cariboo Search and Rescue’s appreciation for them and also to be there to support our community partners.

“We’re so lucky to have a great relationship with Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department. They’re a group of wonderful volunteers who are always so willing to help out, we do joint exercises together, all kinds of joint knowledge sharing, and again we just wanted to make sure that we were there to support them.”

Bortolussi noted that Rick White is truly an amazing leader.

“The fact that he will always go above and beyond for anybody and he truly leads by showing us the example of what it means to be there for your community, to be there for others, to show your support. He really spearheads all of this for us and it just goes to show with his actions.”
