Rangers from the Tsilhqot’in National Government attended event in Ottawa

Rangers from the Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) were in Ottawa for the 2023 Guardians Gathering.

The event was an opportunity for rangers across the country to get together and share notes, and talk about challenges and successes. with the position.

For the TNG, Chief Joe Alphonse says the ranger program is pretty important.

“Our ranger program is to have some of our staffing on the ground within our territory from Fraser River all the way to Anahim Peak, and it’s a chance to monitor what’s going on out there.” says Alphonse.

Alphonse added that the province is limited in what they can do in such a large area, which he says the ranger program fills that gap.

More information on the 2023 Guardians Gathering can be found on the Indigenous Leadership Initiative website here.
